Aaron Catchpole, a 32-year-old man, downloaded more than 4,500 images and videos of child sexual abuse material over an eight-day period and contacted young girls on Instagram asking them to send nude pictures, none of whom replied. He walked into Pearse Street Garda station in Dublin after his former partner threatened he would not see his child again if he did not come clean about his activities. He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 17 September 2020. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him on 11 May 2026 to 2½ years with the final year suspended, effectively 18 months in custody, with Probation Service supervision for one year upon release.
