Gavin Sheehan, 38, was stabbed by two men outside a café at the junction of Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork city centre shortly after 5pm on 6 September 2024, sustaining serious but not life-threatening slash and stab wounds to his head, arms, back and stomach. Aaron Bohane, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested the following morning and charged with assault causing harm and producing a bladed article. He appeared before Cork District Court on 8 September 2024, was remanded in custody, and later pleaded guilty to both charges at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. On 1 May 2025, Judge Helen Boyle sentenced Bohane to four and a half years' imprisonment with twelve months suspended.
