Woman pleads guilty to careless driving causing death at Cork Airport
On October 8, 2023, Kseniia Vasylenko, a 43-year-old Ukrainian woman, was involved in an incident on lands at Cork Airport, Lehanaghmore, in which Andrii Nesterov, a 49-year-old Ukrainian man, was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Vasylenko was arrested in relation to the death and questioned at Togher Garda Station, and was originally charged with dangerous driving causing death. On April 12, 2024, at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of careless driving causing death, which the State accepted, and Judge Helen Boyle remanded her in custody to be sentenced on April 26. The latest development is that Nesterov's family is preparing a victim impact statement and the defence has asked for a governor's report from the prison before sentencing.
