UCD medicine student withdraws Court of Appeal challenge over study allowances after alleged rape
A 20-something Irish medicine student at University College Dublin alleged she was raped by a fellow student in February 2023 and later challenged the university over study allowances after failing six second-year modules. An explicit image of her, showing her naked, bruised and apparently unconscious, was sent to more than 170 staff and students via UCD's email system. After the Court of Appeal reserved judgment on 21 July 2026, she was arrested in Dublin city centre on suspicion of deceiving UCD over documents supporting her rape claim and was released without charge the following night while a file is prepared for the DPP. On 30 July 2026, her lawyers told the Court of Appeal they had instructions to withdraw the appeal, and the court struck out the case with costs ordered to UCD. The student cannot be identified by order of the court, and the arrest was not in relation to the alleged rape.
