Two men charged with human trafficking and money laundering in Cork

Two Slovakian men, Ladislav Bubencik (32) and Marian Vavrek (46), were charged with human trafficking offences in County Cork, where gardaí allege a recruitment agency was a front for trafficking foreign workers from eastern Europe. The case is part of an investigation into an organised crime gang with links to Czechia and Slovakia, and gardaí have identified at least eight victims of labour trafficking. Gardaí arrested two men in north Cork and a third man in Roscommon on a Saturday, and a 72-hour detention extension was granted by Mallow District Court on the Sunday night. Bubencik and Vavrek were charged at Midleton District Court on the Thursday, with Bubencik also charged with 20 counts of money laundering and Vavrek with one; both were remanded in custody with consent to bail. The latest development is that both men were remanded to appear at Mallow District Court on March 12th.
