Case No. 0015Murder and arson · Co. Waterford · 12 Oct 2026

Sixth arrestee released in Waterford arson murder investigation

Philip English, a man in his late 40s, his wife Kim English, and their sons Callum, 12, and Jayden, 9, died in a petrol bomb attack on their home in Birchwood, Waterford City, shortly after 5am on 13 October 2026, while two other children were rescued and remain in critical condition at Children's Health Ireland Crumlin. Gardaí are treating the incident as a multiple murder and suspect a local drugs gang targeted the family over a €20,000 debt owed by an associate of Philip English. Cian Stacey, a 21-year-old man of no fixed abode, and Jessica Dalton, a 31-year-old woman from Waterford city, were arrested on 15 October and charged with criminal damage and two counts of assault causing serious harm, and were remanded in custody to appear before Waterford District Court on 17 November 2026. Five further people were arrested between 20 and 22 October and all have since been released without charge, with files to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The investigation remains ongoing.
