Case No. 1885Assault (violent altercations) · Co. Louth · 30 Jan 2024

Three DKIT students' expulsions quashed by High Court over alleged violent altercations

Three women students at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) in Louth were expelled after four alleged violent altercations between them on January 30 and 31, 2024, three of which took place on campus and one behind a local shop off campus. The students, Margaret Eyong Taku, Wendy Briggs and Christina Igweze, alleged the fights involved a head being stepped on, a wet floor warning sign being used, and weaved hair being pulled out. A disciplinary committee recommended all three be expelled in February 2024, and an appeals committee rejected their appeals in April 2024. On April 10, 2025, the High Court quashed the expulsions, finding the punishment disproportionate, and remitted the cases to a new appeals committee.
