Teenager pleads guilty to sexual assault of woman on footbridge in Shannon

On 16 August 2025, a 19-year-old man, Ryan Connors, who was 18 at the time, sexually assaulted a woman on a footbridge at Drumgeely, Shannon, after she got off a bus to walk to a gym. Fifteen days earlier, on 1 August 2025, he had followed a female airport worker off a bus to her home. Connors pleaded guilty to the sexual assault at Ennis Circuit Court, and the case was reported on 27 July 2026, when Judge Francis Comerford remanded him in custody for sentence. On 28 July 2026 the judge imposed a combined 27-month sentence, of which the final six months are suspended, and ordered Probation Service supervision after release.
