Teen jailed for two months over hoax bomb threat at Clontarf Garda Station
A 17-year-old man held at Clontarf Garda Station in Dublin smuggled in a phone and rang the station, threatening to detonate one bomb there unless prisoners were released and another at a shopping centre unless a named prisoner was freed from Portlaoise Prison. A garda removed the phone, which was later analysed, and the man was charged with knowingly making a false report at the station. He initially denied the charge but pleaded guilty when his trial was about to start. On 2 June 2023, after an earlier adjournment for a probation report, Judge Paul Kelly at Dublin Children's Court sentenced him to two months.
