Tayyab Salah Uddin jailed for 10 years for Sligo rape

Tayyab Salah Uddin, a 31-year-old Pakistani man, is alleged to have raped a woman in a town centre in County Sligo on 15 September 2018, after she had become isolated following a night out. The following night he tried to lure a second woman into his car; gardaí spotted his car on surveillance cameras and patrol cars moved in to stop her being taken. Uddin was charged, left the country, and was brought back to Ireland to be held in custody before trial. He pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the first woman and falsely imprisoning the second. On Monday 3 July 2023 Mr Justice Paul McDermott jailed him for 10 years, with consecutive sentences and three years' post-release supervision.
