Supreme Court refuses appeal in Louth garda murder case

Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, a man aged 41, was shot dead during a credit union robbery at Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgen, Co Louth, on 25 January 2013, when he was ambushed by a five-man gang on a cash escort. Aaron Brady, a man aged 32 (reports differ: 33), was arrested in the US in May 2017 for overstaying his visa and later deported to Ireland. He was convicted of capital murder by an 11-to-1 majority jury verdict at the Central Criminal Court in August 2020 and sentenced to life imprisonment with a 40-year minimum term. The Court of Appeal dismissed all nearly 50 grounds of appeal in July 2024, and the Supreme Court refused leave to appeal in November 2024.
