Case No. 2097False imprisonment · Co. Dublin · 14 May 2018

Sinore Iosca jailed for four years for false imprisonment of vulnerable woman in Dublin

Sinore Iosca, a 25-year-old man from Blanchardstown, Dublin, pleaded guilty on 14 May 2018 to false imprisonment of a 23-year-old woman with Down syndrome, after telling her he had been robbed and leading her to withdraw €420 from ATMs and purchase an iPhone X costing about €1,300 in Dublin's city centre. He was identified from CCTV footage and arrested a few days later. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in March 2025, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to two consecutive terms of two years, totalling four years' imprisonment, backdated to 9 October 2024. Iosca, who has no previous convictions and a mild to moderate intellectual disability, told gardaí he did not notice the woman had Down syndrome and said the money and phone were given to him as presents. The sentencing was reported alongside that of 88-year-old former teacher Jack Manning, jailed for four years for indecent assault of eight boys at a Dublin primary school in the 1970s, and a 24-year-old heavily pregnant woman sentenced to 20 months for money laundering.
