Pilot in €8.4m cocaine smuggling case seeks psychological report
On 4 August 2022 an €8.4 million consignment of cocaine was seized at Abbeyshrule Aerodrome, Co Longford, after a pilot flew it into the Midlands from France, in a Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau-led investigation. The suspects named in the case are Michal Luczak, a 44-year-old man, and Timothy Gilchrist, a 57-year-old man. The co-accused was jailed for 11 years in 2024, and a jury convicted the pilot following a three-week trial last October. At a later mention hearing at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court, the defence was granted legal aid for a psychological report and the matter was adjourned to 8 October for sentencing, with the latest development being that the defence is seeking that report.
