No charges against gardaí over fatal shooting of George Nkencho in Clonee

On 30 December 2020, George Nkencho, a 27-year-old man, was shot dead by members of the Garda Armed Support Unit outside his family home at Manorfields Drive, Clonee, Co Dublin. He was armed with a kitchen knife during a stand-off with gardaí, and a postmortem found he died from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. GSOC investigated and sent a file to the DPP in June 2023. On 24 April 2024 the DPP ruled that no charges be brought against the gardaí involved, and the family intends to appeal that decision.
