Man who overheard bank conversation jailed for theft of woman's handbag, Dublin
On 27 August 2019 a woman's car window was smashed at traffic lights on Oscar Traynor Road, Kilmore, Dublin, and her handbag was stolen. The handbag contained €16,000 in cash, an iPhone, another $2,000, vouchers and jewellery. Joseph Joyce, a 31-year-old man from Springdale Road, Raheny, had been captured on CCTV in an AIB branch in Artane the day before, while a bank teller asked the woman to return the next day to collect the cash. Joyce pleaded guilty in June 2024 to one count of theft at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, and on 10 July 2024 Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to four years in jail, reduced from a headline sentence of five to six years for rehabilitation and family circumstances.
