Man to stand trial over alleged damage to rally car before Donegal race
In June 2022, rally driver Richard Hall's Ford Escort was allegedly interfered with before the historics race at the Donegal International Rally. John Crothers (62) was previously charged at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court with damaging the car, and the case was adjourned so forensic officers could examine snips or shears that gardaí suspected were used to cut wires on it. At a hearing reported on 25 July 2023, the DPP directed that Crothers stand trial before a judge and jury at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, and the case was adjourned to 25 September for a book of evidence to be prepared for the October sittings. Crothers has been released on bail.
