Man to stand trial accused of murder of Marius Mamaliga, Swords
Marius Mamaliga, a 19-year-old from Swords, was allegedly stabbed on the evening of 23 February 2023 while sitting in his car, and died in hospital three days later. Brandon Gavin, a 20-year-old man, handed himself in to gardaí at Swords station after his father brought him there, and was first charged under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. Following directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions, he was further charged with murder contrary to common law, and the earlier charge was withdrawn. On 19 July 2023 Gavin appeared at Cloverhill District Court, made no reply to the murder charge, and was remanded in custody to 26 July pending a book of evidence, as bail on a murder charge requires a High Court application.
