Man remanded in custody over murder of Denis Donaldson
Denis Donaldson, a former senior Sinn Féin official, was shot dead at an isolated cottage in Donegal on April 4, 2006, after he was exposed as an MI5 informant. Antoin Duffy (49) was arrested by Donegal Division gardaí after his extradition from Scotland at the end of March and is charged with Donaldson's murder and five other offences. The Special Criminal Court remanded Duffy in custody, and a book of evidence was ordered to be served on July 6. At his appearance on June 8, 2026, his lawyers described serving the book of evidence as a complicated matter, and his counsel said he intends to apply for bail before the High Court.
