Man remanded in custody charged with murder of Jason Butler in Cork city

Jason Butler, a 32-year-old man and native of Midleton, Co Cork, died at Cork University Hospital on 16 June 2023, two days after he was allegedly slashed with a bottle on the Grand Parade in Cork city centre on 14 June. Aaron Babbington (also spelled Babington), a 30-year-old man of Churchfield Avenue, Cork, was charged with Butler's murder. On 5 December 2023 he appeared at Cork District Court, where the DPP directed trial at the Central Criminal Court on a signed plea of guilty, and he was remanded in custody. The latest development is that he was remanded in custody to appear again at Cork District Court on 12 December 2023.
