Man pleads guilty to new charge in Special Criminal Court trial over Noel Kirwan shooting
On 22 December 2016 Noel 'Duck Egg' Kirwan was shot dead outside his home in Dublin just after 5pm. Michael Crotty, of Cashel, Co Tipperary, was initially charged with facilitating Kirwan's murder and pleaded not guilty. Crotty was accused of buying mobile phone credit at a Spar shop in Naas, Co Kildare, for Sean McGovern, who was described in evidence as a leading figure in the Kinahan cartel. On 6 February 2024, at the end of a Special Criminal Court trial that began three weeks earlier, Crotty pleaded guilty to a new Section 72 Criminal Justice Act charge covering 20 October to 22 December 2016, and his bail was extended.
