Man on trial over third assault on flight diverted to Shannon

A disturbance on a Glasgow to Tenerife flight on 12 June 2024 led to the aircraft diverting to Shannon Airport, County Clare, where gardaí arrested 19-year-old Scottish man Jay Dalziel. He was charged with two counts of assault causing harm to passengers Amie Hendry and John Mills and two breach of the peace offences under the Air Navigation Act. Dalziel appeared at Ennis District Court on 13 June, was remanded in custody with consent to bail, and later released on a €5,000 cash surety before the case was adjourned for DPP directions. On 16 October 2024 he was formally charged with a third assault, that of Shauna Boylan, and the DPP directed a guilty-plea hearing in the district court. The case was adjourned to 20 November 2024 over a jurisdiction issue, with Dalziel remanded on bail.
