Man jailed for Lidl assault and petrol station robbery in Dundalk

Ryan McLaughlin, a 43-year-old man of no fixed abode originally from Omagh, Co Tyrone, was sentenced at Dundalk Circuit Court to three years and three months for assaulting a Lidl worker and robbing a petrol station in Dundalk. On 7 March 2026, he filled a trolley with over €155 of goods at Lidl on St Helena's Terrace and, during a struggle, a worker was bitten in the ribs. About 20 minutes later, he and a third man robbed Go Petrol Station on Newry Road, pulling a cash register from the counter. McLaughlin, a convicted murderer released early from a life sentence under licence, was identified from CCTV, arrested in Ballymun, Dublin, that night while extremely intoxicated, and charged the same day. The sentences are concurrent and backdated to 9 March when he went into custody.
