Man jailed for 15 months over pig cruelty at Thornton Hall
Darren Jackson, a 39-year-old former IT worker from Rivermeade, Co Dublin, was arrested after two pigs were found with stab and slash wounds at Thornton Hall, Kilsallaghan, north Dublin, on the evening of 26 June 2024. He was charged with two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals and one count of theft, and the case was sent forward to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in January 2025. Jackson pleaded guilty to the two animal cruelty counts and was sentenced in November 2025 to 15 months' imprisonment, a headline sentence of two years reduced for substantial mitigation. The 160-acre site had been earmarked for an international protection accommodation centre, and the court heard the incident was linked to opposition to the plans.
