Man given suspended sentence for 2008 Dublin nightclub assault
On April 27th, 2008, Sebastian Betlejewski, a 37-year-old man, punched a man on the dancefloor of the then-named Zanzibar nightclub at Batchelor's Walk, Dublin, and the victim fell and hit his head. Gardaí arrived shortly after the assault, which was captured on CCTV, but Betlejewski was allowed to leave and later left the country before being charged. He was arrested in February 2023 after an Interpol error had listed him as being in the UK, and was extradited from Poland later that year. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court he pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing harm, and in October 2023 Judge Elma Sheahan handed him a suspended 18-month sentence on a number of conditions.
