Man fined and disqualified for drug driving and no insurance in Tullamore

On 25 September 2023, Garda Finbarr O'Leahy stopped Jason Bennett, of Coolanarney, Blueball, Tullamore, in the Midlands, and found that he had no insurance or driving licence. Gardaí also reported a smell of cannabis in the car, a search that found €50 worth of cannabis, and a test showing he was 30 times the legal drug-driving limit. He was charged with speeding, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, drug driving and possession of drugs. In June 2024 the district court sentenced him to fines totalling several hundred euro, with 10-year disqualifications for drug driving and driving without insurance, and took his failure to produce a licence and insurance into consideration.
