Case No. 18164Theft · Co. Longford · 6 Feb 2024

Man faces theft charges over vodka thefts from Longford Tesco

Dainius Stonys (34), of The Willows, Clonbalt Woods, Longford, faced two counts of theft over bottles of vodka at the Tesco supermarket in Longford on 6 February 2024. Sergeant Enda Daly said he removed a security tag from a Smirnoff bottle valued at €33 and hid it in his clothes, then hours later tried to leave with a similar bottle hidden in his clothes and was stopped by security staff. At a court hearing reported on 23 February 2024, he had no previous convictions and his solicitor said he was under the influence at the time. The judge said a conviction could have a disproportionate effect and may be avoided if he pays €150 to the court poor box, and the matter was put back to 8 July to allow this.
