Louth car dealer convicted of knowingly selling a dangerous car
Ali Fawad, a Louth-based car dealer and former employee of Greenhill Motors of Boyne Business Park in Drogheda, was involved in the sale of a 2012 Mazda 6 that Greenhill Motors bought at auction in July 2021 and sold in August 2021. The car's Diesel Particulate Filter was missing, and after a first consumer returned it for serious mechanical issues, a second consumer bought it in November 2021 and returned it for a full refund when it failed an NCT. The CCPC prosecuted Fawad and Greenhill Motors following an investigation, and both were convicted of knowingly selling a dangerous car without telling the consumer of its issues. On 18 June 2024 Judge Eirinn McKiernan at Drogheda District Court sentenced Fawad to three months in prison suspended for 12 months and fined Greenhill Motors €4,000 with €4,500 plus VAT in legal costs payable to the CCPC, and the case was reported on 23 June 2024.
