Longford woman's littering conviction quashed on appeal
Susan Murphy, of 57 Mill Race Park, Drumlish, Longford, was convicted in her absence in the District Court of littering over an incident on 29 December 2018 at the clothing bring bank in Drumlish. The conviction followed CCTV footage showing a car registered to her stopping at the bring bank, and a litter notice issued to the vehicle owner was not paid. In January 2020 she was fined €300 and ordered to pay €650 in costs. She represented herself in the appeal before Judge Kenneth Connolly in the Circuit Court, arguing she had not committed the offence. The Longford Leader reported on 29 November 2024 that the judge very reluctantly allowed the appeal and removed all District Court penalties.
