Case No. 5122Dangerous driving · Co. Cork

Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes convicted of dangerous driving near Mallow

Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes (26) was convicted of dangerous driving at Mallow District Court for overtaking nine cars at 155km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N20 between Cork and Mallow on July 14th. He had denied a charge of dangerous driving and offered to plead guilty to careless driving, but Judge Colm Roberts convicted him of dangerous driving on September 10 and imposed a two-year driving disqualification and a €250 fine. The judge then sent him back to Limerick Circuit Criminal Court under Section 99 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 to consider activating a two-year suspended sentence he received for violent disorder. Hayes intends to appeal the dangerous driving conviction, and a Garda application for a judge to review the suspension of his sentence is also pending.
