Juvenile arrested over serious assault on teenage boy in Sligo

On the evening of Tuesday 31 October 2023, at about 7.10pm, a 14-year-old boy was allegedly beaten around the head with a baseball bat with spikes nailed in it outside a premises on Mail Coach Road in Sligo town, and a friend with him was attacked but not badly injured. The boy was taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. Four male juveniles in their teens, including a 13-year-old and two 15-year-olds, were arrested from 1 November 2023 and charged in connection with the assault. On 2 November three of them appeared before a special sitting of Sligo District Children's Court and were remanded on bail with a 7pm to 7am curfew, and the fourth was due before the court on 3 November. The three boys are due back before Sligo District Court on 18 January for DPP's directions.
