Judge seeks victim impact statement in Birr nightclub assault case
Kieran Bracken (29) of Fox Covert, Money, Kilcormac pleaded guilty to assaulting Patrick Leonard at Melba's Night Club in Birr, Offaly, on 7 August 2023. Garda Sergeant Richard Thornton gave evidence that Bracken punched Leonard, causing a swollen and scraped left ear and bruising to his forehead. At a hearing at Tullamore District Court, reported in May 2024, Judge Nicola Andrews said she was obliged to seek a victim impact statement and that compensation of €1,000 should be paid. The case was put back to 5 June, when the victim may make a statement, and Bracken was remanded on court bail until then.
