Jibola Moses Akanni jailed for eight and a half years for rape of intoxicated 17-year-old in Dublin

On 15 February 2018, a 17-year-old woman was raped and sexually assaulted at an apartment on Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1, after Jibola Moses Akanni, 27, of Drogheda, Co Louth, gave her alcohol and she was left barely conscious. Akanni was identified through CCTV and documents relating to the rented accommodation where he had stayed. He was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. On 26 June 2025, Mr Justice David Keane at the Central Criminal Court sentenced him to eight and a half years' imprisonment, all concurrent, backdated to November, with two years' probation supervision on release.
