Inquest into death of Jason Butler after Cork bottle attack adjourned

On 14 June 2023, Jason Butler, a 32-year-old man originally from Castleredmond in Midleton, Co Cork, was attacked with a broken bottle on Grand Parade in Cork city centre. He died at Cork University Hospital on 16 June 2023. Aaron Babbington was charged with his murder and has appeared before Cork District Court. On 18 January 2024, an inquest at Cork Coroner's Court heard that the cause of death was a brain injury with alcohol and drug intoxication and sharp force injury, and the inquest was adjourned because criminal proceedings are ongoing.
