Case No. 0562

ICCL 'very concerned' after gardaí post photo of four men detained on ground

Four men were arrested at night after fleeing from a vehicle on foot, and a photo showing them lying on gravelly ground with at least five gardaí standing nearby was shared to a regional garda Facebook page. At least two of the men appear not to be wearing shoes in the image, and three appear to be struggling or uncomfortable in their positioning. The post was later deleted, and An Garda Síochána said it was removed for operational reasons. The Irish Council of Civil Liberties (ICCL) said it was 'very concerned' and asked why the image was taken, why it was published, and how its publication was deemed necessary. The article was published on 21 July 2026.
