High Court judge finds Limerick Language Centre owner gave misleading statements
In July 2025 the Department of Justice removed Limerick Language Centre (LLC) and Erin College from the ILEP student visa scheme following complaints and an investigation into unmet refund obligations. LLC sole shareholder and director Sharif Ahmed Sarker, a national, sought a stay on that decision, but on 9 October 2026 High Court judge Cian Ferriter refused the stay, finding that Sarker's sworn statements were materially and inexcusably misleading and that both schools were in admitted breach of the scheme's requirements. An agency had told the court that €50,000 paid for 29 prospective students had not been repaid and that LLC had deducted accommodation fees from refunds for students who never travelled to Ireland. LLC announced its closure in September 2026.
