Case No. 6074Robbery and assault · Co. Cork · 17 Apr 2024

Gardaí believe robbery, not racial motive, behind attack on three Chinese nationals in Cork

At about 6am on Wednesday 17 April 2024, two men broke into a two-storey house on Millerd Street in Cork city centre and attacked three occupants, a man and two women, all Chinese nationals in their 30s. The man was struck repeatedly with an iron bar or baseball bat, and the two women were assaulted again upstairs, and all three were taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening. Early reports said no arrests had been made, and gardaí believe robbery rather than a racial motive was behind the attack. A later garda press release says two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested and charged and are due before Cork District Court on Wednesday 25 September 2024 at a provisional time of 11:30am.
