Gardaí ask DPP to charge Daniel Kinahan and allies over Eddie Hutch murder

Eddie Hutch, a 58-year-old (reports differ: 59) taxi driver and father of five, was shot dead by several assailants outside his home on Poplar Row, Ballybough, Dublin 3, on 8 February 2016, three days after Kinahan associate David Byrne was killed at the Regency Hotel. Gardaí believe he was targeted in retaliation for Byrne's murder because he was the brother of Gerry Hutch, and that Daniel Kinahan, 47, a man believed to be living in Dubai, played a central role in organising the killing. The investigative file, covering approximately 1,300 tasks including 500 statements, was sent to the DPP in February 2024 with a recommendation that around 10 people, including Kinahan, Sean McGovern, Gary Finnegan and Trevor Byrne, be charged.
