Gardaí appeal for witnesses over attempted murder in Longford town

On Wednesday 17 July 2024, at about 7.45pm, PJ Finnan, a 74-year-old man, was shot in the arm through the front window of his home in the Springlawn estate, Longford town. Gardaí say a navy-blue BMW with UK registration plates arrived with three people, two of whom got out and fired shots before the car drove off. Mr Finnan was taken to Regional Hospital Mullingar, survived and was discharged several days later, and the car was later found burnt out at a farmyard outside Longford. Gardaí at Longford station opened an attempted murder investigation, and Crimecall appeals were issued in October 2024. As of July 2025, no arrests had been reported and Gardaí were still appealing for witnesses.
