Four killed in gangland arson attack on family home in Waterford

Four people were killed when a petrol bomb was thrown at their home in Birchwood, Waterford City, shortly after 5am on Tuesday 13 October 2026. Philip English, in his 50s, Kim English, in her 30s, and their sons Callum, 12, and Jayden, 9, died in the fire; two other children, a 14-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, were rescued in critical condition. Gardaí believe the attack was drug-related, linked to a local gang pressing Philip English, who had no involvement in crime, to pay a debt of up to €20,000 owed by an associate. Cian Stacey, 21, and Jessica Dalton, 31, were arrested on 15 October, charged with criminal damage and two counts of assault causing serious harm, and remanded in custody; four further people were arrested and released without charge. As of 26 October, Stacey and Dalton remain remanded with their next court appearance set for 17 November 2026, and the murder investigation is ongoing.
