Former teacher on appeal over indecent assault conviction in Dublin
A 74-year-old former teacher was convicted of 118 counts of indecent assault against eight boys, aged six to 14, between 1977 and 1984 at a Dublin primary school, his home address, and in his car. He was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Orla Crowe at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The man, who has 128 previous convictions including 127 for indecent or sexual assault, is now on appeal at the Court of Appeal, where his defence argued that essential evidence from a 1995/96 investigation was unavailable and the trial judge's delay warning was insufficient. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy reserved judgment to a later date.
