Former An Bord Pleanála deputy chair Paul Hyde avoids jail on appeal
Paul Hyde, a former deputy chairman of An Bord Pleanála appointed in 2019, was charged with nine counts of making false or misleading declarations of interest to the planning authority between 2014 and 2022, after properties he had listed in 2014 were left out of his 2018 declaration. He pleaded guilty to two offences under Section 147 of the Planning and Development Act, and the State withdrew the other seven counts. Judge James McNulty earlier sentenced him in West Cork to two months in jail on each count he pleaded guilty to, to run concurrently. On appeal on 15 November 2023 at Cork Circuit Court, Judge Colin Daly replaced that sentence with a €6,000 fine and two three-month prison sentences suspended in their entirety, so Hyde avoids jail.
