Ex-wife of former Garda Mark Doyle describes years of abuse after six-year sentence
Mark Doyle (38), a former garda, admitted five counts of assault causing harm to his ex-wife, Meav Doyle, and two counts of assaulting two of her sons causing them harm, on dates between September 2007 and August 2019, mainly in the family home in Celbridge, Co Kildare. After a complaint to gardaí in spring 2020, he was suspended, arrested in December 2020, and later resigned before pleading guilty on the day of his trial in October 2023. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 15 March 2024 to a global six years, backdated to when he went into custody. Meav Doyle later said she had feared he might kill her and her children.
