Case No. 19525Attempted robbery · Co. Louth · 7 Aug 2022

Dundalk man sentenced to community service for attempted robbery of filling station shop

On 7 August 2022, two men entered the Maxol filling station shop on the Castletown Road in Dundalk, Co Louth, and one produced a black handgun-type weapon and demanded that the till be opened, but this was not possible because money had to be placed in it first. Thomas McGee, a 51-year-old man, was identified as the man dressed all in black with the firearm. He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and theft of food and admitted trespassing at a construction site at Patrick Tierney Crescent on 8 October 2020. On 12 October 2023, Dundalk District Court sentenced him to 220 hours community service in lieu of a four-month jail term, with the judge citing his housing as a reason.
