Dublin man jailed for raping wife
A 57-year-old Dublin man was charged with raping his wife, who is not named to protect her identity, during their marriage of nearly 20 years. The offences were alleged to have taken place in the family home and a holiday home on dates in 2006 and 2018. A Central Criminal Court jury in June, at a trial held the previous June, found him guilty of five counts of rape, acquitted him of three further counts, and could not agree on a ninth count. On Monday, 13 November 2023, Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring jailed him for 9½ years, with the final 18 months of an 11-year sentence suspended on conditions, and he must have no contact with his former wife for five years after release.
