Case No. 9479Attempting to solicit a sexual act from a child · Co. Dublin

Dublin man jailed for online sex offences against fictitious children

Michael Macken, aged 41 and of no fixed abode, was confronted in August 2024 by the Child Online Protection Enforcers, a vigilante group based in Northern Ireland, which located him at his parents' home in Coolock, Dublin, on 20 August 2024. He had been communicating sexually with people he believed were children aged 14 and under, but the children were fictitious and the group used a decoy adult. He pleaded guilty at the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin to nine counts of attempting to solicit a sexual act from a child and six counts of sending sexually explicit material to a child under the Criminal Justice (Sexual Offences) Act 2017. Reports from May 2026 say he was sentenced to eight years in prison with the last six months suspended, although one article's opening gives seven and a half years.
