Dublin City Council wins Court of Appeal on Sandymount cycleway

The Court of Appeal in Dublin allowed the Sandymount cycleway project on Strand Road, south Dublin, to proceed after finding the High Court had erred in July 2021 in quashing the scheme, which was first proposed in August 2020, and also dismissed a cross-appeal by Independent councillor Mannix Flynn. In a separate ruling delivered the same day, the Court of Appeal dismissed the conviction appeal of Stephen Tynan, 46, and Raymond Fitzgerald, 41, upholding their December 2018 life sentences for the murder of Andrew Guerrine, Tynan's cousin, who was stabbed 20 times at an unknown location between May 22 and 23, 2015, after going to Tallaght to sell tablets. His body was found in the early hours of May 23 on Steelstown Lane in Rathcoole, 10km from where he was last seen alive in Tallaght approaching a pedestrian entrance into Knockmore. The men had been convicted by a Central Criminal Court jury by majority verdict and sentenced to life by Mr Justice Michael White.
