Doctor suspended from practising by High Court over mental health and clinical conduct
A male GP who qualified in Pakistan and practised in Ireland for 35 years was suspended from practising medicine by the High Court in July 2025, pending completion of a Medical Council fitness-to-practise process. The suspension followed complaints from the directors of an out-of-hours GP service in the Leinster area in December 2024 about the doctor's unusual behaviour and two clinical near misses, as well as a psychiatrist's April 2025 assessment of a persistent delusional disorder centred on a belief that Gardaí had been surveilling him since around 2010. The doctor, who was removed from the out-of-hours service roster in October 2024, denied all claims and alleged a conspiracy involving his former wife, a detective garda, and others. Mr Justice David Barniville granted the Medical Council's application, saying he was satisfied there were legitimate and reasonable concerns for the protection of the public, and gave the doctor liberty to apply to vary the order if he agreed to the Council's conditions.
