Case No. 6904Murder · Co. Dublin · 20 Jan 2021

Court of Appeal upholds life sentence with 13-year review for murder of Urantsetseg Tserendorj in Dublin

On 20 January 2021, Urantsetseg Tserendorj, a woman, was stabbed in the neck on a walkway between George's Dock and Custom House Quay in the IFSC, Dublin, while walking home alone from work; she was declared dead on 29 January 2021. The suspect, a man who was 14 at the time of the offence, denied murder and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but a jury later found him guilty of murder after two trials. The Court of Appeal rejected his appeal against conviction and, on 19 December 2023, rejected all grounds of his appeal against sentence, upholding a life sentence with a review after 13 years. At that hearing he shouted abuse as he was taken from the court, and the victim's family had asked for the judgment to be delayed until 20 January next year, which the defence opposed.
