Court of Appeal upholds Jason O'Driscoll's Louth double murder conviction
Anthony Burnett, 31, and Joseph Redmond, 25, both men from Ballybough in Dublin's north inner city, died of gunshot wounds to the head on 7 March 2012 in County Louth, and their bodies were set on fire in a car. Jason O'Driscoll, 42, was charged with their murders and pleaded not guilty. A first jury in 2017 could not reach a verdict, and at a retrial he was convicted by a ten to two majority and sentenced to life imprisonment in October 2018. He appealed, and Ms Justice Tara Burns dismissed the appeal on a Friday, with the Court of Appeal upholding the conviction and rejecting challenges to the prosecution's vehicle identification expert. The ruling was reported on 19 May 2026.
