Court of Appeal overturns ruling on venue for three accused over online identification of Ana Kriegel's killers
Edel Doherty (48), Kyle Rooney (26) and Declan Corcoran are accused of posting online material identifying Boy A and Boy B, the teenagers convicted of murdering Ana Kriegel in 2018. Doherty appeared at Dublin District Court in October 2020, and in December 2020 Judge John Hughes ruled the offences too serious for the District Court and should be heard in the Circuit Court. The High Court later quashed that refusal and sent the matter back to the lower court. On 16 November 2023 the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court ruling, and the matters will be remitted to the District Court to ascertain whether the DPP consents to the accused being sent forward for trial, with costs and Legal Aid issues adjourned to 1 December.
